With joy and gratitude we present here the design of the entrance area of the bunker Ulmenwall, whose implementation was something special for us. Not least because of the warm and open nature of the people who run it and invited us there for the design.
The official designation for the bunker is "Socio-cultural education and music event facility in Bielefeld." This is not quite an adequate description of a place so imbued with music and culture, where so many exchanges of talented musicians, intellectuals and young people take place. The bunker is alive, a jewel of the music scene in OWL.
Cayan, Frieda and the Bunker team gave us a free hand in developing the motif for the design. We suggested music, joy of life, positive atmosphere, tolerance and openness. The resulting designs met with the approval of the Bunker team, and there was nothing to stop us from implementing them.
The challenge here was to transfer the motif true to scale. Due to the downward slope of the stairs and the small distance to the back, the best solution was to transfer the motif using a grid. Somewhat challenging, but it was possible to ensure that the composition would retain its overall effect. The positive and lively colour scheme delighted both the bunker team and the passers-by.
